A few things worth knowing
Frequently asked questions about LifeCycle
Quick answers about getting started, reminders, search, and keeping your data. For step-by-step detail, visit the user guide.
Getting started
Is LifeCycle free?
LifeCycle is currently free to use. You can download it from Google Play.
Does it work on iPhone?
LifeCycle is currently available for Android only.
What should I add first?
Start with one responsibility you already manage, such as a home maintenance task or a vehicle service. Set its schedule and record completed work. Add other sections as they become useful.
Do I need to be online?
Core tracking uses records stored locally on your device and does not need constant connectivity. Optional services and model downloads can require an internet connection.
Reminders and records
How are reminders organized?
Planning groups reminders as Overdue, Due Soon, and Upcoming. Due dates and alert profiles determine which items are visible. A red indicator can mean a task is approaching its due date; it does not always mean the task is overdue.
What changes when I choose a different alert profile?
Minimal, Short, Medium, and Long control advance notice. All four use a red window of 0–2 days before the due date. Longer profiles extend yellow and blue visibility. The user guide lists the exact ranges.
Can I snooze a reminder?
In Alerts, snooze eligible items for 1, 3, or 7 days, including overdue items. Snoozes apply to active in-app alerts and Android notifications, without completing work or changing its due date. Review or restore items under Snoozed.
Does the Ledger pay my bills?
No. It tracks recurring payment dates, completion records, and notes. An autopay entry advances for tracking purposes; confirm actual payment with your payment provider.
How does clothing rotation work?
Log wears and washes to keep the records current. Rotation uses recency and, for shirts, relative wear counts. Availability also depends on maximum wears and ironing status. Suggestions depend on what you record.
Search and optional AI
Which sections can I search?
Search begins in your current supported section. All sections includes Home, Clothes, Vehicle Service, the Ledger, and Favorite products. Hard Drives, Facilities, and Travel are not currently included.
Will a search change my records?
No. Search finds records. Home Find & Log helps select the item and task, asks for missing details, and requires review before saving. Other results take you to the existing record and its controls.
Do I need AI to search?
No. Local matching works without AI. Optional Gemini Nano assistance for Home Find & Log is off by default and depends on device support. A model download, if needed, requires confirmation. There is no cloud-search fallback; local matching remains usable if assistance is unavailable.
Backups and your data
How do I back up LifeCycle?
In Settings, use Manual Complete Backup or enable daily/weekly Automatic Complete Backup in a selected folder. Complete ZIPs include records, app settings, and supporting media. Automatic backups retain three copies; manual copies are not automatically pruned. Keep a copy outside your phone.
Can I use a cloud folder?
Yes, if your cloud storage provider exposes selectable folders through Android’s storage picker. Not every provider supports this, and a Google account alone does not connect Drive. Check the last successful backup and reconnect the folder if needed. Reset clears the selection, not existing backup files.
Does restoring merge my records?
No. Restore ZIP replaces current local data. Preserve a current backup, read the confirmation, and review restored records and media afterward.
Is a JSON export the same as a backup?
No. Export Data (JSON) is for selected structured data. It does not replace a complete ZIP backup with settings and supporting media.
Can I rely on Android’s automatic backup?
Do not assume Android backup includes every LifeCycle record and media file. Availability depends on the device and settings. Keep your own complete ZIP backup outside the phone.
Can I export rental-car records?
Yes. Rental-car records support redesigned PDF reports with Pickup/Return summaries, condition notes, per-media metadata and original-file fingerprints, plus complete ZIP exports with available originals and retained history. Location metadata is optional. Exports organize your captured records; they do not guarantee acceptance in a dispute.
Shirt availability and rental history
Can I pause a shirt without deleting it?
Yes. In the shirt’s three-dot menu, choose Pause to exclude it from Planning recommendations and available-wear calculations. Resume includes it again. Its details and wear/care history remain, and a pause symbol on the image or placeholder shows its status.
Does removing a saved walkaround photo delete the original?
No. Confirming removal changes the editor first; saving retains the original and removal event in the rental’s history and exports. Cancelling the editor leaves the saved walkaround unchanged. Consider adding photos to clarify the condition instead. A new, unsaved capture is only a draft and is deleted when removed.
Can I permanently delete a rental and its media?
Deleting the entire rental is a separate, confirmed action that deletes its current and retained media from app storage. Existing exports or backups are not deleted by that action.
